B12 Status and Cognitive Impairment amongst other neurological and haematological pathology Lead Investigator: Simon Ting Institution : Singapore General Hospital E-Mail : simon.ting.k.s@sgh.com.sg Proposal ID : 448 Proposal Description: Background Poor vitamin B12 status is associated with cognitive impairment amongst other neurological and haematological pathology. There is also an association between vitamin B12 deficiency and the onset of dementia however existing evidence is controversial or low in quality. While existing studies focus on describing the association between vitamin B12 deficiency and cognitive impairment or dementia, no definitive links have been drawn between vitamin B12 status and the clinicopathological outcome of patients with dementia and whether vitamin B12 status confounds clinical dementia etiological diagnosis also remained uncertain to date. Hence this study aims to establish whether there is a significant difference in the clinicopathological outcome between dementia patients with comorbid B12 deficiency and those with normal B12 status.
